"Book" in Mandarin Chinese

The Chinese language provides the roots for many East Asian words. Take, for example, the Chinese word for "book." It is used universally throughout the region, and can be found in the Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese languages.
The word "book" is pronounced "Shoo" in Mandarin Chinese. The upper portion of the character shows texts or documents anchored to, but above, the ground. In fact, they are even above the sun, which is the life giving force itself.
This character shows that books are considered the most lasting of an author's attempt to leave something behind in the world. It confirms the idea that all we leave behind after our death are our genes and our ideas. Money, belongings and even the sun are, like all else, transient.
