China & WTO: Fourteen Top Growth Areas

After 15 years of hard negotiations, China won admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) last month. (Taiwan was admitted to the WTO the day afterwards.) As a result, the nation is expected to be strongly impacted in diverse industry sectors. 

Here's where the Shanghai Municipal Government has forecasted the highest demand for services as a result of the WTO decision.

  1. Professional services such as legal services, accounting,
    auditing, taxation, financial management, medical services, technical testing and analysis, technological consulting, translation and educational services.

  2. Computer & computer-related services, including computer and
    information technology, system analysis, programming, system
    maintenance, data processing, etc.

  4. Off-shore oil (drilling) service, including oil drilling technical
    consulting, geological and geophysical and other exploratory consulting, etc.

  5. Inland oil services: Construction and related engineering services

  7. Real estate services: Ownership and rental services, contractual
    services.

  9. Banking: Non-residents' foreign currency savings, foreign
