Younger Koreans, Taiwanese Study Abroad

More young Koreans and Taiwanese are expected to study at US private high schools and boarding schools than in previous years. A key reason behind this trend is the recent liberalization of study abroad requirements for middle and high school students by their Ministries of Education in 2001.

Korea

Younger Koreans are already showing interest in studying abroad. At IEF's Fall 2001 American Education Fair, about 10 percent of attendees were in middle or high school.

Experts predict this trend will only continue in Korea. For this reason, IEF is hosting Mini-Fairs with Seoul's 24-member association of foreign language high schools at the Spring 2002 American Education Fair. At the same time, we are cultivating new relationships with Korean middle schools.

Taiwan

Young Taiwanese also are demonstrating interest in attending US private high school and boarding schools. More than 12 percent of the attendees at the IEF Fall 2002 event were still in middle or high school. This is a much higher number than in past years.

Extensive publicity helped attract younger students to the fall fair. In addition to a multi-faceted marketing campaign with Taiwan's largest media, posters were distributed to high schools throughout the island.

This student recruitment trend is only expected to grow. To learn more about how you can benefit, contact us.
