Multi-Sector U.S. and Chinese Experts Address Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Shanghai

WHAT: Members of media with valid credentials are invited to attend a press conference that concludes a two-day workshop on intellectual property rights in China.

The Shanghai IPR Workshop, Oct. 29-30, is adopting a multi-level collaborative approach to help the city’s officials address IPR challenges, and U.S. and overseas companies more effectively maneuver China’s legal and regulatory processes.

Honorable Bruce Lehman, Chairman of International Intellectual Property Institute (IIPI), will deliver the keynote address. An active member of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Lehman helped negotiate the WIPO Copyright Treaty and WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty. Under the Clinton administration, Lehman served as U.S. Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks.

Panel discussions on IPR issues affecting entertainment, information technology, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sectors will be chaired by representatives of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), Entertainment Software Association (ESA), U.S. Information Technology Office (USITO), Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturing Association (PhRMA) and R&D-based Pharmaceutical Association (RDPA).

Classes taught by distinguished government officials, university professors and legal experts will be conducted in Chinese and English to address issues from “effective enforcement of WTO requirements” to “better protecting IPR assets in China.” A complete agenda is available at www.aief-usa.org/ipr.
