Why Recruit in Taiwan?
"More cabinet-level officials in Taiwan have Ph.D. degrees from American educational institutions than do U.S. cabinet officials."
Steven Young
Deputy Director, American Institute in Taiwan
The Taiwanese place a very high importance on an
American education.
Taiwan is the world's fifth largest source of foreign students to the U.S. In
2001, more than 28,000 Taiwanese students were in this country. Approximately 12,000 new students arrive each year.
In 2001, Taiwan's ministry of education significantly
liberalized study abroad requirements for middle & high
school students.
More than one third of Taiwanese study at the undergraduate level. Overall, the most popular fields of study are business administration, engineering, education, graduate studies (including MBA's) and computer technology. Over the years, students have demonstrated a growing interest in community colleges and ESL programs.
Taiwan has weathered Asia's economic crisis relatively unscathed. The region's wealth is built primarily on small, private businesses rather than large corporations. For this reason, many families can afford an American education for their children.
This is an excellent opportunity to recruit students from Taiwan!
