For nearly a decade, IEF has helped the world's finest students learn about living and studying in the United States.
Since 1992, IEF has worked with educators, school representatives, business leaders and government officials worldwide on programs that bridge the information gap between international students and U.S. academic institutions. These programs have been supported by such organizations as the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. State Department, Fulbright Foundation, China's Ministry of Education and American Institute in Taiwan.
IEF's programs teach students how to prepare properly for the U.S. educational system - and how to succeed academically and socially once they arrive. We help students find a school, guide them through the application process, provide advice about visas, and answer hundreds of questions about a range of topics.
Our effects also include:
- Promoting exchange programs between the United States and other nations to encourage greater cross-cultural understanding.
- Establishing cooperative programs between more than 20 higher education institutions in the United States, Taiwan and China.
- Hosting U.S. college representatives at well-attended overseas education
fairs, so they can meet with potential students and families.
- Partnering with UScampus.com to provide students with a free, comprehensive online school directory and advice tailored to their needs.
- Arranging meetings for U.S. college representatives with U.S. Embassy and non-U.S. officials to address visa issues, recruitment challenges and cultural differences.
- Founding the American College Information Centers in China, Taiwan and soon Korea, which provide U.S. schools with a well-equipped "office away from home" for candidate interviews and college presentations.
- Publishing a series of annually updated reference books on U.S. education, which are used throughout China and Taiwan.
- Training Asian counselors on the U.S. educational system, and providing financial assistance for several counselors to attend NAFSA courses.
- Arranging for U.S. professors to instruct English language teachers in Asia on the most advanced training methods.
- Awarding students more than 38 scholarships, worth more than $400,000, during the last five years.
- Facilitating airport pick-up services for newly arrived students.
